AMD's new processor launch--the first in 5 years--has finally had its details revealed. The processors will come out on March 2nd with pre-orders available now. The Ryzen 7 will have 3 SKUs available at launch.

  • Ryzen 7 1800X: 8C/16T, 3.6 GHz base, 4.0 GHz turbo, 95W, $499

  • Ryzen 7 1700X: 8C/16T, 3.4 GHz base, 3.8 GHz turbo, 95W, $399

  • Ryzen 7 1700: 8C/16T, 3.0 GHz base, 3.7 GHz turbo, $329

The new IPC boasts a 52% improvement over Bulldozer, AMD's last flagship architecture. This surpasses their goal of a 40% IPC improvement.

AMD have also released some benchmarks showing the processor matching, and in some cases, surpassing their Intel 6th gen counterparts (specifically in multi-threaded tasks). With the R7 1800X being half the price of an i7-6900K, this could be a line to keep watch on if you're looking for a new build. As always, I'd recommend waiting to see how retail benchmarks pan out.
